As a liaison betweeen the end user and the
manufacturer, Molam's quality control department is an effective
tool for procurement professionals. It allows them to have a visual
inspection and certification inspection of material before shipment,
without the added cost of maintaining a local office or of using
its own personnel. The strategy of using a local company for quality
control often reduces total cost. It is especially effective for
those companies in remote locations where it is essential to receive
correct material the first time.
Based on current findings, 20 to 30% of all material received
is initially rejected due to inaccuracies. An early detection
of descrepancies before shipment is an added value, dramatically
reducing the time it takes to reach the delivery site, thereby
optimising the total cost of ownership.
Molam's inspectors provide quality control inspections at the
site of manufacturers and suppliers throughout Europe and USA
on a cost-effective basis. A typical inspection for a pump, for
example, includes dimensional checks against drawings to determine
whether equipment is manufactured within tolerance. Also manufacturing
standards for instance API or ASTM, are identified and confirmed.
Testing results are checked or tests are witnessed in accordance
with client specification.
The inspector has at his disposal the original order specification
including technical documentation, x-ray reports, material certificates,
and other documentation necessary to perform a thorough third-party
inspection before shipment.
Serial numbers, part numbers, quantity, packing specifications
and shipping mode are controlled before final approval for shipment
is given.
All documentation required for the transaction, including certificate
of origin, invoices, packing lists, and other export documents
which form and integral part of the order and where problems may
occur on the export or import side, are controlled by the inspector
in order to provide a smooth logistics process and customs clearance.
